Bodø is the hub of Nordland, forming the perfect base for further exploration of the region and the rest of North Norway. The city is only a one hour and twenty minute flight away from Oslo. From Bodø you can continue your journey by plane, helicopter, fast passenger boat, railway, Hurtigrute ship, car, bus or ferry.
A flight from Oslo to Bodø only takes one hour and twenty minutes. You can also catch the Nordlandsbanen train from Trondheim and enjoy the countryside at close quarters on the way. Or you can board the Hurtigrute ship and sail along the world’s most beautiful coastline before disembarking in Bodø. Your motoring holiday will take you along either the E6 or the Coastal Route (Rv 17). Bus, train and boat converge in the city centre. Bodø is the unequivocal hub of the north.
Bodø is a compact city where everything is close at hand. It takes five minutes to walk from the airport to the city centre. There is a city centre bus service that can take you around town, and fast passenger boats and coach services can take you on trips outside of the city centre, to places like Kjerringøy, Saltstraumen and Værran (the islands off Bodø). Taxis and hire cars also make good alternatives.
There are many ways to travel from Bodø. You can catch the Hurtigrute ship or fast passenger boat to destinations along the coast. Widerøe’s STOL airport network ensures that places like Svolvær, Narvik, Brønnøysund and Røst are far less than an hour away. And there are direct flights to Tromsø, Bergen and Rygge. You can catch a train down to Trondheim on the picturesque Nordlandsbanen railway, or drive along the E6 or the Coastal Route (Rv 17). |
